Yoga is specific exercises that encourage well-being by attaining control over the mind and body. My personal experiences with yoga have been positively pleasant. The poses that I use depend on the mood I am in, or what it is I am trying to accomplish.

For me yoga is like a prayer in motion. With a few deep cleansing breaths, I place myself in a reverent state of mind and body. From there, I focus on how the different movements make me feel. I tune in and listen to my heart beat and the way in which I am breathing. I will even notice a heated feeling that goes through my veins.

When I lean or bend forward, I feel free and calm. When I use my hips and thighs, I feel strong, grounded, and powerful. If I do a stretch or twisting motion, I surrender into the pose and relax. If seated or lying down, I embrace the position. This is when I feel most tranquil and connected to myself and the universe.

Self discipline allows me to stay connected; at this point I may pray, or talk with the angels.

Imagine how good it would feel if you put several of these movements together into a routine. It is a great technique to practice for physical and emotional strength as well as physical and emotional relaxation.

The series of poses and movements keep the body limber. It releases muscle tension and allows oxygenated blood to flow through out, creating an over all sense of well being. When the body is kept limber and flexible, it helps to protect you from pulled and/or spasms of the muscles; especially the back. With physical strength and good muscle tone, the body burns calories more efficiently and gives you energy through out the day.

Any stress or tension you may be experiencing can be released through a simple yoga procedure.

No one is saying you must stand on your head and know every form of yoga in order to benefit from it.

I will do yoga for days in a row, and then sometimes I won’t do it for a few weeks. I do it on an as need basis. If I am having a boring day, I may do a quick routine to spice up my mood, or if I am in pain, I may do some stretches. What it really comes down to is, what are your needs at that moment, and then just go with the flow.

There have been times when I have felt so in tuned, that is has actually felt like I was dancing with my soul. It almost feels like being on another realm.

Spiritual Suggestion:

If you want to try something invigorating that is a little different then the usual aerobic class; try yoga. You will gain balance, strength and flexibility; peace of mind, body and soul.
